3 Procedures Used In Corrective Surgery For Tuberous Breast Deformity

download (18)There are so many issues that can make a young lady feel self-conscious about her looks. This is particularly so if there’s an issue with any part of her body that’s central to her femininity. That’s why tuberous breast deformity is something that any young woman would hate to have.

If affected, your breasts would develop a tubular shape. Hence the name: tuberous breasts. There are several underlying aspects that lead to the unappealing outward impression of tuberous deformity. The base of your breasts would be affected by a constricting ring and you may also have a deficiency of breast tissue. This would be further compounded by an extent of breast tissue herniation encroaching on the space of your nipple-areola-complex. And that’s not all. The condition would be further compounded by areola enlargement as well as visible breast asymmetry.

The combination of all these aspects is what makes surgical correction quite challenging. However, many new and effective treatment modalities have been developed over the years to deal with the problem. Presently, there exist quite a number of options for treatment, which can effectively restore your natural looks.

Corrective Surgery for Tuberous Breast Deformity

The first and most important step before treatment is always identification of the severity of the condition. Only by understanding how pervasive the condition is would it then be possible to apply the most effective mode of treatment. Once the severity has been determined, various techniques can be utilized in the surgical procedure. These include: glandular scoring, periareolar access, mastopexy and subpectoral implant placement.

The type of procedure to be applied would also go hand in hand with the technique to be used:

i. Is a Single-Stage Surgical Procedure Possible?

A 2009 study, published by the University Hospital Erlangen-Nuernberg, elaborated how 15 patients had their inherent breast deformity corrected through a one-stage operation. The benefit of this procedure was not only evident in the short time it took to complete it, being a one-stage operation, but also resulting in only a periareolar scar. This means that surgery didn’t involve any skin flaps or tissue expanders.

ii. Multi-Stage Surgical Procedures

As much as the one-stage operation resulted in much less scarring, a two-stage corrective operation also has certain benefits. With a two-stage operation, you are likely to achieve a result that’s more aesthetically pleasing.

This two-stage operation involves routine augmentation mammaplasty that helps correct base defects caused by both horizontal and vertical contraction. A new skin brassiere would also be necessary in order to deal with an inevitable ptosis within the nipple-areola complex. This goes further than the mere telescoping of breast tissue into the region of the nipple-areola complex, which doesn’t always produce a fully satisfactory long-lasting solution.

iii. Other Treatment Techniques

Quite a number of surgical techniques are continually being adopted to combat emerging and existing challenges in tuberous deformity correction. One such method aims to reduce areola size as well as breast tissue herniation. Firstly, subpectoral augmentation would be carried out on the affected breast, followed by a technique known as deepithelialization targeting a doughnut-shaped skin area around the areola. Thereafter, the breast tissue would have four wedges of tissue extracted from beneath the new areola. This helps in reducing areola size and herniated breast tissue.

Breast Augmentation – Making The Right Choice

download (17)The overall shape of your body is the sum total of how all your different body parts blend into each other. As a woman, there are critical parts of the body that really bring out your femininity and one that definitely does is your breasts. If you feel that your breasts are too small for your figure, or you need an increase their volume, then it’s time to think about getting a breast augmentation.

About The Surgery

A breast augmentation is a surgery performed to add to the fullness of your breasts and make the symmetry of your breasts better. This is done by surgically placing implants in your breasts, and sometimes fat transfer can be done if you only need a minimal increase in breast size. The surgery will give your breasts improved projection and will enhance the youthful shape of your body.

Who Can Have The Surgery?

You can safely consider a breast augmentation if you are generally in good health and if you have fully developed breasts. If one of your breasts is larger than the other one, or if your breasts did not develop in the normal way, then this may be the surgery for you. You can also decide to have the surgery if your breasts lost their shape and fullness after pregnancy, as a result of aging, or after you lost a large amount of weight. It is, however, important to have expectations that are achievable and realistic to avoid disappointment after the surgery.

Types Of Implants

Silicone breast implants are filled with silicone gel, and the gel has the feel of natural breasts. The implant is safe and in case of any leakage, the implant will either collect within the shell of the implant, or will collect in the pocket of the breast implant. The implant will not collapse in case of leakage. You can even decide to have silicone gel implants that have a soft or firm touch.

Saline implants are filled with salt water which is sterile. In case of any leakage, the saline implant will collapse and the liquid will get absorbed into the body. The implant normally gives a uniform firmness and shape but have a density that is different to that of the natural breast tissue. This makes them ripple, thus increasing the chances of rupturing.

The Surgery

Your surgeon will normally administer general anesthesia during the procedure. This is done to ensure that the muscles have relaxed completely and that you are totally still. The surgeon will then make an incision at a place that is not very visible. The point of incision will depend on the amount of breast increase required, the type of implant that will be used and your body type. After making a cut, the implant is placed under the pectoral muscle or over the pectoral muscle behind the tissue of the breast.

Recovery

After the surgery, your breasts will be swollen and drains may be placed under the skin for 24 hours to get rid of excess blood and fluid. The swelling will normally go down within two to three weeks, and within two months, the breasts will begin to settle to their correct position.

Breast Lift – Regaining Your Youthful Body

download (16)The body of a woman usually undergoes many changes during the different stages of her life. One of the stages that can take a toll on your body is childbearing. Many women face a great challenge getting rid of the baby fat, though with much effort, many are able to get back to their pre-pregnancy body. There are parts of the body, however, which cannot be restored back to their original shape without some help. Sagging breasts are among them, and a breast lift can help to restore the youthful shape of your breasts.

What It Does

There are many reasons that cause the breasts to sag, and some of these include pregnancy and breastfeeding. You can also develop breasts that are sagging due to aging or because it is hereditary. If you have lost a large amount of weight, you might also end up with sagging breasts. A breast lift is a surgery conducted to remove excess skin on the breast and then tighten the breast tissue. This raises the breasts, giving them a new youthful shape. A breast lift can also reduce the size of the areola if it has increased in size over time.

Selecting A Technique

A breast lift can be done by using different techniques, and the technique the surgeon will select will depend on certain things. The shape and size of your breasts and the areola size and position will affect the type of technique to be used. The doctor will also consider how much extra skin is on the breast, and will check the elasticity and quality of the skin. He will also check how much the breasts have sagged before deciding the most effective technique to give you the best results.

How The Surgery Is Performed

When undergoing a breast lift, general anesthesia will be administered to ensure you are comfortable during the procedure. The surgeon will then make an incision pattern that will be the most effective for your condition. A crescentric scar or donut shaped scar can be used to position the nipple correctly without changing the shape of the breast. On the other hand, a lolly-pop scar or an inverted T-scar can be used to give the breast a new shape while positioning the nipple properly.

Scarring

When the procedure is completed, the surgeon closes the incisions, which results in a certain amount of scarring. Depending on the procedure conducted, you may have scars hidden under the contour of the breast. Other scars can be seen on the surface of the breast. The scars are permanent, but most surgeons will use the best technology of scar therapy to ensure they are of good quality. These scars will normally fade within 24 months, so there is no need to worry.

Recovery Period

You can have a breast lift done and go home the same day. However, you will have suction drains placed under your skin to get rid of excess fluid. Normally, these drains will stay on for up to three days, and the doctor will show you how to empty them while at home. You may also be given medication and instructions on how to care for the breasts as they heal.

Breaking Down The Cost Of Breast Lift Surgery

download (15)The biggest factor you’ll think of once you choose to get a breast lift done is the cost. What can make it expensive and out of reach for some people is the fact that it’s not covered by most health insurance companies.

Here is a breakdown of how much it will cost you to have breast lifting surgery:

What Is And Isn’t Included

A lift surgery will cost you anywhere between $3,500 and $6,000. Typically, a surgeon will charge upfront for the anaesthesia, surgeon’s fees and facility fees. Hidden costs that you may not be aware of include lab work, prescription painkillers and antibiotics. If there’s need for other recovery aids such as medical padding, then you will be charged for them as well.

Additional Procedures

A lift surgery can be done as a single procedure or it can be combined with other breast procedures such as breast augmentation or reduction. It can also be part of a body contouring plan. If you choose to have two different procedures, such as breast augmentation and lift on the same day, you will have to pay a lot more money. However, having the two procedures at the same time will mean that you get to save on the amount of anaesthesia you will be charged for, as well as the surgeon’s and facility’s fees. In this way, it makes sense to save money by having both procedures done on the same day.

Be Aware Of The Consultation Fee

Some surgeons may or may not charge a consultation fee. In some practices, the consultation fee is included in the total surgery cost, while others prefer to charge it separately. Before you book your appointment, it’s important that you learn about the surgeon’s consultation fee policy.

Location

Did you know that where you will have your breast surgery done plays a role in how much you’ll be charged? Such cosmetic procedures tend to cost more if the facility is located in an urban area. In such locations, the demand for cosmetic surgeons is higher and there is a long waiting list as well.

There also exists the phenomenon of plastic surgery tourism. This is where you travel far in order to get your breast surgery done. As exotic as it sounds, there are certain risks involved in travelling to a place you’ve never been to before. Although it may be cheaper to get breast surgery done outside your own country, there are other costs such as travel, accommodation, risk of complications and infections.

To know exactly what the whole procedure will cost, you need to ask your surgeon what it would entail; including the hidden costs. If you were involved in an accident and need corrective surgery, then your medical insurance may choose to cover some of the expenses for you. However, if the surgery is meant purely for aesthetic purposes, you’ll be responsible for footing the bill.
